Improve Fire Safety
75% of all assessments found issues with fire doors
Last week was Fire Door Safety Week, so in support of that Cardinus*are highlighting their own findings from a report they conducted earlier this year.
Cardinus analysed 15,000 properties across England, Wales and Scotland with data from their own fire risk assessments and found that the most prevalent issue across all surveys was related to fire doors.
It is almost unheard of to visit a property and not find some issues around fire doors. Issues can be anywhere from residents replacing existing fire doors on their individual flat entrances, to a simple lack of inspection and maintenance regimes.
The most common issues noted with fire doors are:
- Not closing effectively
- Poorly fitting into frames
- No intumescent strips or cold smoke seals
- Plastic letterboxes
- Cat flaps or ventilation grilles cut into doors
- Residents replacing doors
- No periodic inspection
Make sure you get regular inspections to ensure that these issues are noted and resolved. To find out other common fire hazards download Cardinus special report.
