Television Frequency Changes
Television frequency changes may affect your viewing platform. The changes which are happening across the UK are well underway and will impact viewers using the Freeview platform.
Many changes that have already been made affected transmitters across Central Scotland and Aberdeenshire. The biggest changes affect the Black Hill transmitter and these commenced during September and continue during October.
Other transmitters that changed during September were Aberfoyle, Canongate, Newbattle, Craigkelly, Darvel, Divis, Rosneath and Haddington.
Digital Uk lead the development of Freeview across the UK and you can access more information on the rollout of the TV frequency change programme across the country by clicking the links below.
How will this affect viewers and channel providers?
Digital UK suggests that most Freeview viewers will simply need to retune their TV equipment when this change takes place in their area. However, Ofcom the UK’s communications regulator, has stated that between 140,000 - 270,000 homes may also need to either replace or realign their aerial to continue receiving all available channels.
As part of 700MHz clearance, Ofcom states that:
- 14-20m homes will need to retune their TV equipment
- 100,000 -160,000 homes may need to replace their aerial
- 40,000 - 110,000 may need to have their aerial realigned
- A small number of households may need to change TV platform
